“Democracy at a Crossroads — Can civil society save the democracy?” was a public conference held in Kristiansand, Norway, on 6 May 2026, organised by PVN Norway together with Kristiansand kommune and the University of Agder (UiA) as part of the city’s Democracy Week.
The conference put journalists, researchers, civil society organisations, municipal representatives and young people around the same table. Panels examined the pressure on independent media and civic space in Europe, with speakers including journalist Aleksandra Kosalka and Tamara Filipović Stevanović of the Association of Independent Journalists in Serbia, and asked what civil society can realistically do when democratic norms come under strain.
